Angelina's interest in cooking was sparked as a teenager as she watched her great grandmothers and mother cook in their Greek kitchen, she is a fourth generation cook! After her studying sociology Angelina worked as a journalist, has published a magazine and taught media in the past. She has traveled around the world and it was during her time living in South Korea in the 90's that she started offering Greek cooking classes. An active bilingual food blogger, member of Slow Food International and a member of the Mykonos Gastronomic Club, Angelina is passionate about sharing forgotten Greek and Myconian recipes featuring locally produced and seasonal ingredients with her guests. One of her passions is discovering traditional island cheeses, small wineries, and microbreweries and she loves sharing her insider knowledge with her guests.
Please note menu might vary. If there are particular dishes you are interested in trying, please include your request in the booking form.
In-home meal: (2-25 guests) Enjoy a traditional Greek meal at Angelina’s dining table, or outdoors when the weather is nice. Angelina highlights Mykonian produce and seafood caught off the island’s shores. Your meal begins with a selection of meze such as taramosalata, saganaki (fried cheese), tzatziki, spanakopita, gigantes plaki (giant beans in tomato sauce), and hand rolled dolmades with vine leaves and herbed rice, followed by a fresh Greek salad. For your main course, choose from dishes such as chicken giouvetsi with orzo in tomato sauce, lamb with potatoes, garides saganaki (prawns with tomato and feta), revithada (slow cooked chickpeas from nearby Sifnos), or traditional moussaka. Revithada and moussaka require advance preparation, so please request these at the time of booking. End your meal with Angelina’s homemade baklava, which you will prepare together.
Cooking experience: (2-25 guests) Join Angelina in her kitchen for a hands-on Mykonos cooking class where you will learn to prepare a traditional Greek meal using local Cycladic ingredients and simple techniques you can recreate at home. When the weather is nice, the class may take place outdoors in a shaded barbecue area. During this authentic Greek cooking experience, help Angelina prepare both savory and sweet dishes such as feta parcels with honey and sesame (or spanakopita when fresh spinach is available) and easy homemade baklava. You will also learn to cook a traditional main dish such as shrimp saganaki with tomato and feta, grilled calamari with basil pesto orzo, orzotto with calamari and summer vegetables, soutzoukakia (Greek beef and mint meatballs in tomato sauce), or fish fillets cooked in wine and tomato sauce served with roasted potatoes. As you cook with a small glass of ouzo, Angelina will share stories about Cycladic island cuisine and Mykonian food traditions, explaining how simple local ingredients create deeply flavorful meals. You will discover how less becomes more in the Greek island cuisine, turning the limited produce of the islands into a deeply satisfying meal. After the cooking lesson, sit down together to enjoy the Greek dishes you helped prepare.
Market visit: (2-4 guests) Meet Angelina in front of Vegera Restaurant, located across from St. Nicholas Church with the blue dome on the waterfront in Hora, the main town of Mykonos. From here, walk together to the nearby open air fishmongers and farmers market to discover local island produce. Browse the stalls for fresh fish (when available) and seasonal vegetables, then stop at a local bakery for fresh bread or visit the butcher to pick up ingredients for your meze platter. Along the way, you will also stop at a small supermarket to learn about and purchase traditional Mykonian cheeses such as tyrovolia and kopanisti, which you will use to prepare small cheese pies during your cooking class. The market visit lasts about 10 minutes, after which you will walk a few minutes, basket in hand, to Angelina’s home to begin your Mykonos cooking class. Please note that the open air market closes at noon, so the recommended start time for the market tour is 10:00am. The market also operates with limited vendors on Sundays.
Notes: Angelina’s private Mykonos cooking class, exclusively for your group, is available during the summer season from May through October and has limited availability. For groups of 2–4 guests, the experience takes place at Angelina’s home in Hora (Mykonos Town). Please note that her home is located in a pedestrian area and can be reached only on foot, about a 5–10 minute walk from the Sea Bus stop or nearest taxi drop-off. For groups of 5 or more guests, the class is hosted at Angelina’s home in Lia, and round-trip transportation is included in the cost.
